How Do I Reenlist?

To reenlist you must speak with a reenlistment NCO or career counselor. They will be more than happy to assist you in your decision. Most counselors are experienced soldiers looking to help younger soldiers make good decisions to help career progression. However, there are some counselors out there only trying to impress their commanders with statistics and may lie to get quick reenlistments. If you feel you are being harassed you should speak with your chain of command to resolve the issue.

The process is straightforward, the counselor will make sure you are eligible according to the Army’s regulations. After he/she verifies you are eligible, a hotline request will be submitted to the Retention Management Branch (RMB) with the choices you requested. RMB managers will look at your requests and decide if the Army can support your wishes. In many cases, if your request is special, they will reply with 'this request does not support Army strengths' and a counteroffer will be sent.

The best way to get what you want is to do scrupulous research and be well versed in the Army's reenlistment options before talking with a counselor.

How Much Money?

The Army has recently changed the way it pays bonuses. The very first thing you must do is get a copy of the most up-to-date SRB MILPER message. You can download one HERE. The message may appear cryptic at first, but if you are patient you will grasp how it works.

Most soldiers are eligible for an SRB (Selective Reenlistment Bonus). However, the MOSs that can be paid a reenlistment bonus are not always the same. For example, a 19D (Cavalry Scout), may have been eligible for a reenlistment bonus two months ago, but now a new message is out, and it states cavalry scouts do not receive an MOS bonus. However, they may still be eligible for a deployment bonus.
